WELCOMING REMARKS from DR. KWANG YUL CHA,
Chairman of CHA HEALTH SYSTEMS & Chancellor of POCHON CHA UNIVERSITY
On behalf of CHA Health Systems and Pochon CHA University, it is with great pleasure that I invite you to our 2nd Biennial International Collaborative Symposium on Stem Cell Research to be held on September 18-19, 2008 in Seoul, Korea.
At CHA Health Systems and Pochon CHA University, we have long been committed to being at the forefront of modern science, medicine and research. In our continuing endeavor to fulfill this mission and commitment, CHA Stem Cell Institute was established in September, 2000 to create a central, multidisciplinary research facility where our research scientists and hospital physicians could come together and focus their efforts on studying and developing stem cell and regenerative medicine technology. Since that time, our team of researchers and clinicians has been dedicated to realizing the vision of CHA Stem Cell Institute of harnessing the potential of stem cells and regenerative medicine for the treatment and cure of human diseases through basic and translational research. In December 2006, we successfully hosted our first international collaborative symposium as an effort to provide an international and collaborative forum for sharing, learning and contributing to the advancement of stem cell research which was a catalyst for renewing the momentum of stem cell research in Korea.
Since our first symposium less than two years ago, tremendous progress and achievements have been made in the field of stem cell biology worldwide which have given strong impetus to the ongoing study and research into the potential and power of these remarkable self-renewing, pluripotent cells. Many of these achievements were the result of strategic collaborative efforts among scientists from different research institutes. Through such collaboration and exchange, it is evident there is greater opportunity for mutual development and global advancement in science and research.
We are honored to be the host to the many distinguished scientists from all over the world who have accepted our invitation to participate in this year’s meeting and share their latest research developments and achievements. As the title infers, we are hopeful that our 2nd Biennial International Collaborative Symposium on Stem Cell Research will serve as an international forum to cultivate collaborative research and challenge each other to greater scientific heights for the benefit of mankind.
As we welcome the autumn season, the most beautiful time of year in Korea, I warmly invite you to join us for a dynamic scientific exchange on stem cell biology and also experience and enjoy the beauty and serenity of the Land of the Morning Calm at its best.
